Ford reveals full details for EcoBoost engine, confirms launch in Lincoln MKS, MKT, and Ford Flex models

The first in a wave of new EcoBoost engines makes its debut in the Lincoln MKS, MKT and Ford Flex later this year as part of Ford's global initiative to provide powertrains that deliver high output but low consumption and emissions. The first engine will be a 3.5L petrol V6 with direct-injection and twin-turbochargers, which is claimed to deliver the performance of a normally aspirated V8 but the economy of a V6. The new mill delivers a peak 355hp (265kW) at 5,700rpm and 350ft-lb (474Nm) of torque from 3,500rpm.

Ford debuts new 2010 Taurus sedan

Ford's facelifted Taurus sedan has been revealed just hours ahead of its debut at the Detroit Auto Show, revealing a new design theme that was first showcased on the updated Fusion range and is expected to filter across more Ford models over the next couple of years. Set to go on sale in the middle of the year, the Taurus has been extensively updated for the 2010 model year with new safety features, two new six-speed automatic transmissions, and a more upmarket interior. The car benefits from Ford's new global design strategy, which made it possible to deliver it up to one year sooner than if developed by a single engineering team.

Updated Ford SYNC provides personalized traffic, directory and news services

Ford is enhancing the connectivity capabilities of its vehicles by introducing exclusive new SYNC real-time information features that deliver personalized news updates to drivers' mobile phones while also helping them navigate around trouble spots in the hope to save time and fuel. SYNC is an electronic communications and entertainment interface developed by Ford and Microsoft. Ford's next-generation system – SYNC with Traffic, Directions and Information – was unveiled at the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show this week, and is destined to provide simple handsfree access to personalized traffic reports, precise turn-by-turn driving directions and up-to-date information including business listings, news, sports and weather. To take advantage of Traffic, Directions and Information, customers simply have to pair their Bluetooth-enabled phone with SYNC and activate the service via a special website.

Ford to reveal future electric plans at Detroit Auto Show

Hot on the heels of news that Chrysler is planning to show a new all-electric sports car concept at next week's Detroit Auto Show comes a new report that claims Ford is also planning to reveal its electric future at the event. While there are no plans to show-off a new concept vehicle per se, Automotive News is reporting that Ford will give specific details about several electric vehicle projects planned for the next couple of years. The first of these will be an electric van aimed at commercial fleets.

Ford struggling to find buyers for Volvo

Ford is reportedly having trouble offloading its failing Volvo subsidiary, with German carmaker Daimler over the weekend strongly denying any interest in the Swedish brand. Volvo, which was once a part of Ford's mighty Premier Automotive Group, is now one of the last remaining vestiges of Ford's former empire, and finding a buyer is becoming more and more difficult for the Blue Oval. The news comes from a Daimler spokesman, who claimed that Daimler was "never interested in Volvo" in reply to earlier reports linking the two companies.

Ford tops IIHS safety results, Lexus and Infiniti miss out

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) today released its annual list of vehicles that had earned the agency's coveted 'Top Safety Pick' award, revealing that some major milestones had been achieved. According to the president of the IIHS, Adrian Lund, "Top Safety Pick winners are the top performers in tough front, side, and rear crash tests, and they have electronic stability control, a crucial technology that can help drivers avoid many crashes altogether." While Ford topped the list with 16 of its vehicles being included, the real celebrations would have been taking place over at Acura.

Ford reveals pricing for 2010 Fusion range

Ford took the covers of its updated Fusion range at this week's Los Angeles Auto Show, introducing a new Sport version and a range-topping Hybrid model. The carmaker has announced pricing for the full range, starting with the entry-level Fusion S at $19,270. Undercutting top sellers like the Chevrolet Malibu, Honda Accord, and Nissan Altima, the Fusion S model comes with a 2.5L four-cylinder and six-speed manual. Standard features include air-conditioning, power windows, locks and mirrors, a capless refueling system and 16in alloy wheels. Next up is the Fusion SE at $20,545, which gets bigger 17in alloy wheels and a six-speaker stereo with Sirius Satellite Radio.
